Goodnight Punpun
I’ve jumped back into manga lately and recently I binge-read a series named “Goodnight, Punpun”. And, let me tell ya, it’s weird. It’s great! But it’s weird 🙂
My brother recommended it to me a long time ago because of the art (we’ll get to that later) but I was busy reading something else at the time. But then the Gant on the Trash Taste podcast on Youtube recommended it as one of his top 9 manga of all time I figured I’d have to check it out. Aaand then I read the whole thing in 3 days.
It’s a coming of age story and we get to follow Punpun from middle school until he’s in his twenties. In the first chapter it all starts out pretty well and then things take a turn for the worse. And then it goes downhill from there basically. It does eventually gets pretty depressing and bring up a lot heavy subject matter. If that sounds like your wheelhouse, then I can totally recommend it!
Now. Let’s talk art.
The art is gorgeous! You can tell that the artist has put in A LOT of time and detail into every single panel of these volumes. Well… Except for the titular Punpun and his family that are, for some reason, made to look like these doodly bird people. It’s a metaphore, okay? Well… Mostly.
So anyways, if you want to read a great and not too long of a manga, you should totally give this manga a look.
Stay awesome, my dudes!
